Figure Skating Winter Olympics 2014

The 2014 figure skating Winter Olympics takes place in Sochi, Russia at their Iceberg Skating Palace. For this Winter Olympics, there are five events to compete on February 6-22, 2014.

It will be the first time that a team event will be held, the reason why the competition started one day earlier the Opening ceremony. Again, it is the first time of the Winter Olympics that the competition started the day before it is officially opened.

During the whole event, there are 148 quota spots available for all athletes in the competition. The National Olympic Committee can enter a maximum of 18 athletes, 9 women and 9 men. Also, for the team event there are six additional quota spots and ten team trophies are going to be distributed to qualifying countries. This means that 158 athletes can participate.

The competition schedule for the five events is as follows:

  • February 6 – Team event for pair short, men’s short and ice dance short.
  • February 8 – team event for ladies’ short, team event for pair free and men’s free.
  • February 9 – Team event for ice dance free and ladies’ free
  • February 11 – Pair skirting short
  • February 12 – Pair skirting free
  • February 13 – Men’s singles short
  • February 14 – Men’s singles free
  • February 16 – Ice dance short
  • February 17 – Ice dance free
  • February 19 – Ladies’ singles short
  • February 20 – Ladies’ singles free
  • February 22 – Gala exhibition

There are 30 participating nations composed of 149 athletes, the countries that are making their debut are the Philippines and Brazil. The participating nations and their corresponding participants are the following:
